Contd: Web 3.0 Commentary etc..

Software Development

This post is part contribution to the general Web 3.0 / Data-Web / Semantic Web discourse, and part experiment / demonstration of the Data Web. I came across a pretty deep comments trail about the aforementioned items on Fred Wilson's blog (aptly titled: A VC) under the subject heading: Web 3.0 Is The Semantic Web.

Web Me2.0 -- Exploding the Myth of Web 2.0

Software Development

Nova Spivack provides poignant insights into the recent Web 2.0 vs Web 3.0 brouhaha which I've excerpted below: Web Me2.0 -- Exploding the Myth of Web 2.0 : "Many people have told me this week that they think 'Web 2.0' has not been very impressive so far and that they really hope for a next-generation of the Web with some more significant innovation under the hood -- regardless of what it's called...

Web 2.0 vs Web 3.0 Brouhaha!

Software Development

It's kind of ironic to see what has emerged after ISWC 2006 and the Web 2.0 Summit . From my vantage point, if appears as though the Web 2.0 event inadvertently (albeit beneficially) left its attendees looking for the next big thing re. the Web Innovation Continuum as exemplified by the "Web 3.0" meme from the New York Times (NYT) which triggered the current "Web 2.0 vs Web 3.0 Brouhaha".

ISWC 2006 - Technical Links

Software Development

It's really nice to see DAWG-Fooding in effect at ISWC 2006 as demonstrated by this ISWC 2006 Technical Links Page :-) Likewise, It would be nice if there were some Mash-ups, Service Endpoints, or Syndication Feeds that exposed relevant Data from the Web 2.0 Summit (beyond the usual selective, best-of, type Blog Commentary and traditional Speakers List ).

Contd: Web Dimensionality

Software Development

Frederick Giasson continues the conversation about the Web Experience Dimensions in a new post --the first of several-- that chronicles the evolution of Pingthesemanticweb.com and Talk Digger, from Interactive-Web (Web 1.0) sites to Data-Web oriented Data Spaces:

Geonames marches foward with ontology v1.2 : " Geonames announced the release of its Geonames ontology v1.2 . The new ontology has few enhancements. It introduced the notion of linked data and made clear distinction between URI that intended for linking documents and for linking ontology concepts.

SIOC-o-sphere & Blogosphere 2.0

Software Development

In a previous blog post I suggested that the emerging SIOC-o-sphere should be described as "Blogosphere 2.0". Well, as I think about this a little deeper, I have come to the realization that this cannot really be correct (even though it may be more buzz worthy etc..). The fact of the matter is that, SIOC is about Semantically-Interlined Online Communities (Data Spaces) comprised of Blogs, Wikis, D...

iPointer: Identify Landmarks Using GPS Phones

Software Development

iPointer: Identify Landmarks Using GPS Phones : "In most mobile applications, GPS phones are typically used to track the physical location of their users. iPointer is an interesting location-based service that uses GPS phones as ‘pointers’ for identifying physical things that surround their users — e.g., landmarks, buildings, and point of interests. This is how I think it works. When a user points t...

Value vs Source

librarians / Software Development / warlick

(Via David Warlick .) : Value vs Source : " I think we’re all sorta jumping around the same bush. It’s been a good dance because I’ve learned some things. First of all, nothing’s simple and it isn’t getting any simpler. There are no rules any more and as much as I’d like to come up with some kind of all encompassing unified field theory of ethical research method, I know that smarter people than m...
