Bruce Johnson is a Principal Consultant with ObjectSharp and a 25-year veteran of the computer industry. He spent half of that time working in the MultiValue database and UNIX marketplace, but the past 10 years have been spent on projects at the leading edge of Windows technology, including using .NET since the introduction of version 1.0. His experience includes the creation of commercial web applications using HTML/DHTML and JavaScript, the implementation of Web Services in a financial institution and the building of Windows Forms applications for software vendors. As well as his experience in system design and development, he has also given over 200 presentations at user conferences all over North America and has been published in International Spectrum magazine (where he had a column for six years), ASPToday.com and C#Today.com. He is also the co-author of The ASP 3.0 Code Maintenance handbook (Wrox Press)

The situation is as follows: The following statements are executed against a SQL 2000 database that contains >1M records in the act_item table. They are run using Query Analyzer and the Duration and Reads come from SQL Profiler
